Short answer: Vitamin K2 has a half-life of about 3 days (Schurgers LJ et al. 2007) and reaches steady state after about 15 days of regular dosing. Levels peak about 6 hours after a dose by mouth. On a daily schedule the model builds up to about 4.8× a single dose, with a peak-to-trough swing of about 1.2:1.
Relative units: 1 on the scale is one full dose. There is no FDA label dose for this use, so the chart shows the shape of the curve, not an amount. Dashed line: 5 half-lives. Change the amount or schedule in the calculator.
Levels peak about 6 hours after a dose by mouth.
With regular dosing at a fixed amount and interval, levels climb toward steady state by the same fraction every half-life, whatever the dose. At a half-life of about 3 days:
| Share of steady state | Half-lives | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | 1 | 3 days |
| 75% | 2 | 6 days |
| 90% | 3.3 | 10 days |
| 97% (Dose Track's steady-state rule) | 5 | 15 days |
The longer the gap between doses compared with the half-life, the bigger the swing from peak to trough and the less the levels build up. These ratios do not depend on the amount.
| Interval | Peak : trough | Build-up vs one dose |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | 1.2 : 1 | 4.85× |
| Every other day | 1.5 : 1 | 2.7× |
| Twice weekly | 2.11 : 1 | 1.8× |
| Weekly | 4.71 : 1 | 1.25× |
| Every 2 weeks | 23.7 : 1 | 1.04× |
Build-up is the accumulation ratio 1 / (1 − e−k·τ), with k = ln 2 / half-life and τ the interval.
After the last dose, about half is gone every 3 days. After 5 half-lives, about 15 days, roughly 97% has cleared in the model.
In a study comparing vitamin K1 with MK-7 (Schurgers 2007), both peaked about 4 hours after a dose, and MK-7 had a very long half-life, building up 7- to 8-fold with daily intake. Later studies found MK-7 peaked about 6 hours after a dose (Sato 2012) and reviews give a half-life of about 68 to 72 hours (Akbulut 2020). Dose Track uses 72 hours and 6 hours.
The curve uses the half-life, time to peak, route and bioavailability built into the Dose Track app for Vitamin K2, and the same one-compartment model with first-order absorption. These are modeled estimates from published half-lives, drawn with the same one-compartment model as the Dose Track app. Real levels vary from person to person, and only a lab test measures them. This is not medical advice and not a dosing recommendation; dosing decisions belong with you and your prescriber.
