Short answer: Keep unused Norditropin FlexPro pens in the fridge at 36-46°F (2-8°C), not next to the cooling element. Once in use, you have two options: keep it in the fridge and use within 4 weeks, or keep it at room temperature no warmer than 77°F (25°C) and use within 3 weeks. Do not use a pen that has been frozen or warmer than 77°F. Source: Norditropin label, section 16, Table 14.
| Stage | Option | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Before use | Refrigerator 36-46°F (2-8°C) | Until the expiration date |
| In use (after first injection) | Option 1: refrigerator 36-46°F (2-8°C) | 4 weeks |
| In use (after first injection) | Option 2: room temperature up to 77°F (25°C) | 3 weeks |
Section 16: “Unused NORDITROPIN FlexPro prefilled pens must be stored refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). Do not store directly adjacent to the refrigerator cooling element. Do not freeze. Avoid direct light.”
The label lets you choose, and the shorter window is the price of room temperature. If your pen lasts more than 3 weeks at your dose, the fridge option gives you the extra week. A FlexPro pen is for one person only, even with a new needle.
Norditropin is one of the few growth hormone products with a room-temperature in-use option; Genotropin and Omnitrope cartridges have none. Dose math is on the HGH page.
Patient Information: “Do not use NORDITROPIN that has been frozen or in temperatures warmer than 77ºF (25ºC).” Note the ceiling is 77°F, lower than the 86°F many GLP-1 pens allow.
An in-use Norditropin pen can travel at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, as long as it stays at or below 77°F (25°C). In summer that usually means an insulated bag.
