How to store Skytrofa

Quoted from the US label · Unopened vs in use · Travel · Sources · Reviewed

Short answer: Refrigerate Skytrofa cartridges at 36-46°F (2-8°C) in the outer carton until expiry. Or keep the carton at room temperature, up to 86°F (30°C), for up to 6 months; write the date it left the fridge on the carton. Do not freeze. Each cartridge is single-dose: once mixed, use it within 4 hours. Source: Skytrofa label, sections 2.7 and 16.

What does the Skytrofa label say?

Section 16, for patients: “Refrigerate SKYTROFA cartridges at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) in the outer carton to protect from light until the expiration date. Do not freeze. Alternatively, SKYTROFA outer carton containing blistered cartridges may be stored at room temperature [up to 86°F (30°C)] for up to 6 months and can be returned to refrigeration within the 6 months.”

The label: “Do not use SKYTROFA beyond the expiration date or 6 months after the date it was first removed from refrigeration (whichever is earlier).”

How long does Skytrofa last after mixing?

Section 2.7: “Use SKYTROFA cartridges within 4 hours after reconstitution. Discard reconstituted SKYTROFA cartridges after 4 hours when stored at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C).” If a cartridge was refrigerated, let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before use.

Skytrofa (lonapegsomatropin) is a once-weekly growth hormone mixed by its auto-injector. See the HGH page for context.

How do you store the Skytrofa auto-injector?

The auto-injector is separate from the cartridges. Its Instructions for Use recommend storing it at 59-86°F (15-30°C) between uses with the protective cover on, and avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It has a non-replaceable battery; return it to Ascendis Pharma rather than putting it in household trash.

How do you travel with it?

The 6-month room-temperature option makes Skytrofa easy to travel with, up to 86°F (30°C). Pack the auto-injector charger; the Instructions for Use suggest regional plug adaptors abroad.

  • TSA allows medically necessary liquids over 3.4 oz in carry-on bags; declare them at the checkpoint for inspection.
  • Unused syringes and pen needles are allowed when they travel with the injectable medicine.
  • Ice packs and gel packs that keep medicine cool may go through frozen, partly frozen or melted.
  • Keep medicine in your carry-on, not checked luggage, where you cannot control the temperature. Do not let it touch an ice pack directly, since most labels say do not freeze.
