HGH (somatropin) is recombinant human growth hormone, sold under brands such as Genotropin, Humatrope, Norditropin and Omnitrope. Some products are powder that is mixed before use; others come in pre-filled pens.
Also known as: somatropin, Genotropin, Humatrope, Norditropin, Omnitrope.
US labels state strength in mg; many vials are labeled in IU instead. 1 mg of somatropin is about 3 IU. Powder vials labeled in IU are often 10 IU.
Here is the math for a 10 IU vial mixed with 1 mL of bacteriostatic water, drawing 2 IU with a U-100 insulin syringe (1 mL = 100 units).
10 IU ÷ 1 mL = 10 IU/mL2 IU ÷ 10 IU/mL = 0.2 mL0.2 mL × 100 = 20 units| Amount | Volume | U-100 syringe |
|---|---|---|
| 1 IU | 0.1 mL | 10 units |
| 2 IU | 0.2 mL | 20 units |
| 4 IU | 0.4 mL | 40 units |
Adding more water doesn't change how much HGH is in the vial. It only spreads it over more liquid, so each draw is bigger and easier to read.
| Water added | Concentration | Volume | U-100 syringe |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mL | 10 IU/mL | 0.2 mL | 20 units |
| 2 mL | 5 IU/mL | 0.4 mL | 40 units |
| 3 mL | 3.3 IU/mL | 0.6 mL | 60 units |
| 5 mL | 2 IU/mL | 1 mL | 100 units |
For any other vial size or amount, the free peptide reconstitution calculator works backwards from the amount you want and suggests a water volume that lands on a clean syringe mark.
After an injection under the skin, FDA labels give a half-life of about 2 to 4 hours: 2.0 hours in healthy adults (Norditropin), 3.0 hours in adults with growth hormone deficiency (Genotropin) and 3.8 hours in healthy adults (Humatrope). One small Norditropin study in adults with growth hormone deficiency measured 7 to 10 hours. Levels peak about 3 to 6 hours after the dose: about 3 hours (Norditropin) and 4 hours (Humatrope) in healthy adults, and 4 to 6 hours in adults with growth hormone deficiency (Norditropin, Genotropin).
Numbers shown are the values Dose Track uses, listed only where they agree with the source above. Half-life varies from person to person and with injection site.
