How to add a medication

Dose Track for iPhone and Android · Updated

Short answer: Your first medication: tap Add medication on Home and follow the three Quick Start steps. After that, add medications by creating a protocol: open the Dashboard, tap Stacks, stay on Protocols, and tap +. If a compound is not in the list, add it as a custom medication.

Before you start: Nothing. You can add a medication before you have any vials or reminders set up.

Steps

  1. Start from HomeWith nothing set up yet, Home shows Your journey starts here. Tap Add medication. This opens Quick Start.
  2. Pick what you takeOn What are you taking?, tap a suggestion or type in Search all medications and tap the match.
  3. Set the amount and scheduleOn How much and how often?, enter the Amount, pick a Schedule (Daily, Weekly, Every X days, Specific days or As needed) and an optional Reminder. Tap Continue.
  4. Log your first dose or waitThe last step, Log your first dose, lets you tap Log a dose now, or leave it for later. Your medication now shows on Home.
  5. Add more medicationsTap the Dashboard button (bottom right, next to the tab bar), then Stacks. On the Protocols tab, tap + (New Protocol). Work through Name, Configure, Inventory and Review, then tap Start Protocol.
  6. Or add to a protocol you haveOn Home, tap ... next to the protocol name and choose Edit Protocol. Add the medication on the first step and tap Save at the end.

Adding a custom medication

If you search for a compound and it is not in the built-in list, the search shows Add "name" as a custom medication. You see this in the protocol builder and in the medication picker for Add Dose. Tap it to open the Custom medication page.

  • Name is the only required field. Also known as adds other names you can search by.
  • Under HOW YOU TAKE IT, set the Route, Typical dose (mg) and Usual frequency. These only pre-fill the form later. Each protocol sets its own dose.
  • Under VIAL & INVENTORY, turn on Needs reconstitution if it comes as a powder you mix.
  • Half-life (hours) is optional. Leave it blank if you do not know it.

Tap Add medication to save it. It then works like any other medication for logging, schedules and vials.

Custom medications do not appear on the Levels page. That is on purpose: the app has no checked half-life data for them.

Quick Start or a full protocol?

Quick Start covers one medication in three steps. If you would rather set everything up at once (several medications, vials and cost tracking), tap Set up a full protocol instead under the Home button. A protocol is a named group of medications you take together, each with its own dose and schedule.
