Dose Track logs tadalafil whether you take it once a day or only as needed: daily doses get a reminder, as-needed doses are logged with the time you took them, and the tablets left in your bottle are counted down either way.
The Cialis label has two ways to take it for ED: as needed, starting at 10 mg before sexual activity (5 mg to 20 mg, at most once per day in most patients), or once daily, starting at 2.5 mg and up to 5 mg. For BPH, and for ED with BPH, the dose is 5 mg once daily. Lower limits apply with kidney or liver impairment and some medicines.
| Use | Starting dose | Dose changes the label allows | How often |
|---|---|---|---|
| As needed for ED | 10 mg, taken prior to anticipated sexual activity | May be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg, based on efficacy and tolerability | Maximum recommended frequency is once per day in most patients |
| Once daily for ED | 2.5 mg | May be increased to 5 mg, based on efficacy and tolerability | Once daily at about the same time, without regard to timing of sexual activity |
| Once daily for BPH | 5 mg | None given; when started with finasteride, 5 mg for up to 26 weeks | Once daily at about the same time |
| Once daily for ED and BPH | 5 mg | None given | Once daily at about the same time, without regard to timing of sexual activity |
The two ways of taking it track differently. Once-daily use is a schedule with a reminder at about the same time each day. As-needed use is set as "as needed" in Dose Track, so there is no reminder, but each dose is logged with its time.
Cialis and generic tadalafil are tablets. The label says not to split them. If you take it daily and another strength as needed, add each as its own bottle so both counts stay right.
Cialis is a tablet taken by mouth, with or without food (section 2.5). The label says not to split tablets; the entire dose should be taken (section 2). It comes in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg tablets (section 3).
For use as needed, one tablet is taken at least 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity, and in most patients the ability to have intercourse is improved for up to 36 hours (section 17.11).
For once daily use, one tablet is taken at about the same time every day; for ED and ED with BPH, without regard to the timing of sexual activity (sections 2.2 to 2.4).
Each row is something worth writing down for Tadalafil, why it matters for this medicine, and what Dose Track does with it.
| What to track | Why it matters | In Dose Track |
|---|---|---|
| Time of each dose | As needed, the label gives at most one dose a day in most patients; effects last up to 36 hours after a dose. | Each dose is logged with its time, so you can see when the last one was. |
| Daily reminder | Once-daily use is taken at about the same time every day (2.2). | A daily reminder at your time. |
| Other medicines | The label says never with nitrates or riociguat, and to take care with alpha-blockers and blood pressure medicines (4, 5.6). | Use the interaction checker to look up how two compounds interact, and keep every medicine you take in one list. |
| Blood pressure | Tadalafil can add to the blood-pressure-lowering effect of other medicines (5.6). | Log blood pressure in Vitals. |
| Tablets left | Daily use empties a bottle on a fixed schedule; as-needed use does not. | Each logged tablet comes off the bottle, with a run-out date based on how often you actually take it. |
In the label's placebo-controlled trials of Cialis taken as needed for ED, the most common side effects were headache (11% to 15% vs 5% on placebo), indigestion (4% to 10% vs 1%), back pain (3% to 6% vs 3%), muscle aches, nasal congestion and flushing. Back pain and muscle aches usually started 12 to 24 hours after a dose. Cialis has no boxed warning.
In Dose Track, log headache, back pain, muscle aches or anything else you notice, with a severity and the time, next to the dose it followed. The label says back pain and muscle aches usually start 12 to 24 hours after a dose.

For once daily use for BPH, the Patient Information says: if you miss a dose, you may take it when you remember, but do not take more than one dose per day. The prescribing information gives no separate missed-dose rule for the other uses. (Patient Information) Missed a Cialis dose.
In Dose Track a missed dose stands out in your history, so you can see the gap and count from the right day.
Dose Track is a tracking app, not medical advice. It records what you and your prescriber decide; it does not recommend doses. Check any dose change with your prescriber.
