Anastrozole tracker: dose days and estradiol

Arimidex · 1 mg tablet · Checked

Dose Track reminds you on the days you take anastrozole, logs each tablet, and puts your estradiol results right next to the doses before each blood test. That makes it easy to see how your estradiol moved after a change your prescriber made.

What does the anastrozole label say, and how is it used on TRT?

The Arimidex label gives a single dose with no titration: one 1 mg tablet once a day, with or without food. For advanced breast cancer it is continued until the tumor progresses. For early breast cancer after surgery the best length is unknown; in the ATAC trial it was given for five years. No dose change is needed for kidney problems, older age or mild-to-moderate liver problems.

From the FDA label for Arimidex, section 2.1.
UseDoseHow long
Adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer1 mg once a dayOptimal duration unknown; five years in the ATAC trial
Advanced breast cancer (first-line or second-line)1 mg once a dayContinued until tumor progression
Kidney impairment or elderly patients1 mg once a dayNo dosage adjustment necessary
Mild-to-moderate liver impairment1 mg once a dayNo change recommended; not studied in severe liver impairment

The label above is for its only approved use: breast cancer in postmenopausal women. On TRT, anastrozole is used off-label to lower estradiol; the AUA 2018 guideline lists aromatase inhibitors among options in men with low testosterone who want to keep fertility, and notes only hCG is FDA approved in males.

Whether to take it, and on which days, is your prescriber's call. Dose Track supports daily, chosen weekdays and every-N-days schedules, so you can set exactly what you were given and log the dose your prescriber set.

What form does Anastrozole come in?

Arimidex and generic anastrozole come as 1 mg tablets, the only strength on the label. Tablets come in bottles; Dose Track counts them down as you log.

What should you track on Anastrozole?

Each row is something worth writing down for Anastrozole, why it matters for this medicine, and what Dose Track does with it.

What to track on Anastrozole and how Dose Track handles it.
What to trackWhy it mattersIn Dose Track
Dose daysOff-label TRT schedules are often not daily, which makes doses easy to forget.Pick weekdays or every N days, with a reminder for each.
EstradiolAnastrozole blocks the enzyme that turns testosterone into estradiol.Upload a lab report; estradiol is read out, charted against your doses and judged against a target range you set.
Tablets leftA bottle runs out on a schedule set by your dose days. Each logged tablet comes off the bottle, with a run-out date.
Joint symptoms and moodThe label's trial reported joint symptoms in 36% and mood changes in 19% (against tamoxifen, in women with breast cancer).Quick picks for aromatase inhibitors: joint pain, tiredness, low mood and headache, with a severity.

Which side effects does the Arimidex label list?

The Arimidex label compares it with tamoxifen, not placebo. In the ATAC trial, hot flashes affected 36% on Arimidex vs 41% on tamoxifen, joint symptoms 36% vs 29%, fatigue 19% vs 18%, mood changes 19% vs 18%, and fractures 10% vs 7%. High cholesterol was reported in 9% vs 3.5%. Arimidex has no boxed warning.

Dose Track's quick picks for aromatase inhibitors are joint pain, tiredness, low mood and headache. Type in anything else and set how bad it was.

What if you miss a Anastrozole dose?

The Arimidex Patient Information says to take a missed dose when you remember unless the next one is nearly due, and never two at once (17). That rule is written for the daily breast cancer dose; for an off-label TRT schedule, ask your prescriber. Missed an Arimidex dose.

In Dose Track a missed dose stands out in your history, so you can see the gap and count from the right day.

Frequently asked questions

Can Dose Track show estradiol next to my anastrozole doses?+
Yes. Lab results go on the same timeline as your doses, so each estradiol result sits next to the doses you took before the test.
Can I set anastrozole for two days a week?+
Yes. Pick the weekdays you take it, or every N days, and Dose Track reminds you on each of them.
