Short answer: None of the Ovidrel, Novarel or Pregnyl labels give missed-dose instructions. If it was a fertility trigger shot, timing is the whole point: the labels time it one day after the last follicle-stimulating dose, so call your clinic right away. For multi-week courses, ask your prescriber how to adjust.
| Situation | What the label says |
|---|---|
| Ovidrel (fertility) | Single 250 mcg dose one day after the last FSH dose (Dosage and Administration) |
| Novarel / Pregnyl (ovulation induction) | 5,000 to 10,000 USP units one day after the last gonadotropin dose |
| Novarel / Pregnyl (male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism) | Courses of 2 or 3 injections a week for weeks to months |
| Missed-dose rule | None in any of the three labels |
No. We checked the Ovidrel, Novarel and Pregnyl prescribing information on DailyMed. None includes a missed-dose instruction.
Contact your fertility clinic straight away. In fertility treatment, hCG is a single timed dose: the Ovidrel label says to give 250 mcg one day after the last dose of the follicle-stimulating agent, and only once follicle development is confirmed by estradiol and ultrasound. The Novarel and Pregnyl labels give 5,000 to 10,000 USP units one day after the last gonadotropin dose.
Because the dose is tied to a specific point in the cycle, there is no general rule a label could give. Only your clinic can decide what to do.
The Novarel and Pregnyl labels list several regimens for hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, for example 500 to 1,000 USP units three times a week for three weeks, then twice a week for three weeks, or 4,000 USP units three times weekly for six to nine months. They do not say what to do about a missed injection. Ask your prescriber whether to give it late or continue with the next scheduled one.
Many people also use hCG alongside TRT. That use is not in these labels, so there is no label rule for it either.
It can. The Novarel label says to refrigerate the mixed vial and use it within 30 days; the Pregnyl label gives 60 days refrigerated. Skipped injections do not extend those limits, so check the date you mixed the vial.
