Short answer: Per the FDA label, Foundayo starts at 0.8 mg by mouth once daily. After at least 30 days it rises to 2.5 mg, then to 5.5 mg after at least 30 more days. Based on response and tolerability, it may step to 9 mg, 14.5 mg, then 17.2 mg, each after 30+ days. The maximum is 17.2 mg daily (2.1).
Per label section 1, Foundayo is used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term in adults with obesity, or adults with overweight plus at least one weight-related comorbid condition. This page summarizes the current FDA prescribing information (revised 7/2026). It is not personalized medical advice; your prescriber sets your dose.
The label's dosing schedule (label section 2.1):
| Period | Dose | Label note |
|---|---|---|
| At least 30 days | 0.8 mg once daily | Starting dosage |
| At least 30 days | 2.5 mg once daily | |
| At least 30 days | 5.5 mg once daily | Step reached by everyone on the label schedule |
| At least 30 days | 9 mg once daily | Optional, based on treatment response and tolerability |
| At least 30 days | 14.5 mg once daily | Optional, based on treatment response and tolerability |
| Ongoing | 17.2 mg once daily | Maximum dosage; optional, based on treatment response and tolerability |
Maintenance: The label escalates everyone to 5.5 mg once daily, then allows further increases to 9 mg, 14.5 mg, or 17.2 mg based on treatment response and tolerability; 17.2 mg once daily is the maximum (2.1). The weight-management trials studied 5.5 mg, 9 mg and 17.2 mg as assigned doses (14).
Below is the label schedule laid out period by period, using the earliest timing the label allows. The label lets prescribers stay at a step longer, so a real calendar is often slower. The blank columns are for your own record.

When do they happen? The label states that the incidence of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea was higher during the dosage escalation period and decreased over time (6.1). GI adverse reactions overall occurred in 60%, 68% and 69% of patients on 5.5 mg, 9 mg and 17.2 mg vs 37% on placebo (6.1). The trial data come from an investigational orforglipron formulation presented as equivalent Foundayo dosages (6.1).
The label also carries warnings that are not in this table (for example, a boxed warning or pancreatitis and gallbladder warnings where applicable). Read the full label linked under Sources, and report side effects to your prescriber.
Per the label, a missed dose is taken as soon as possible, without doubling up the next dose. If 7 or more consecutive doses are missed, the label says escalation is restarted at a lower dosage to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions. (label section 2.3)
The label describes one tablet by mouth once daily, with or without food, swallowed whole (not broken, crushed, or chewed), and no more than one tablet per day. The label does not specify a time of day. It reports no clinically relevant food effect on orforglipron exposure (12.3). (label section 2.1)
