Teriparatide is a recombinant copy of the first 34 amino acids of human parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-34). It is FDA approved as Forteo for osteoporosis at high risk of fracture in postmenopausal women and in men, and for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Also known as: Forteo, PTH 1-34.
Forteo comes in a prefilled pen holding 560 mcg in 2.24 mL (250 mcg/mL), which delivers 28 daily doses of 20 mcg. There is nothing to mix and no syringe math. The label dose is 20 mcg under the skin of the thigh or abdomen once a day.
If you also use a powder peptide, the free peptide reconstitution calculator handles the vial math.
The FDA Forteo label gives a serum half-life of about 1 hour after an injection under the skin, with peak levels about 30 minutes after a 20 mcg dose and levels too low to measure within 3 hours.
Numbers shown are taken from the source above. Half-life varies from person to person and with injection site.
