How to store Prempro, Activella and Angeliq

Quoted from the US label · Unopened vs in use · Travel · Sources · Reviewed

Short answer: All three labels say store at 68-77°F (20-25°C), with excursions allowed to 59-86°F (15-30°C). Activella adds one more rule: keep it in a dry place, protected from light. None of the three labels mentions a fridge. Each comes as a 28-tablet blister card or pack. Sources: each label, section 16.2, and the patient leaflets.

What do the three labels say?

Prempro (conjugated estrogens with medroxyprogesterone acetate), Activella (estradiol with norethindrone acetate) and Angeliq (drospirenone with estradiol) are daily tablets for menopause symptoms in women who have a uterus. Their storage lines are almost the same, word for word.

Activella section 16.2: “Store in a dry place protected from light.” Its patient leaflet says the same. The Prempro and Angeliq labels give only the temperature.

Why does the blister card matter?

Premphase is the one product here where tablets differ by day: section 16.1 says each card holds 14 maroon Premarin tablets for days 1 to 14 and 14 light-blue tablets for days 15 to 28. Keeping the tablets in the card is the simplest way to stay on the right day. The Prempro carton also notes that the package is not child resistant, so keep it out of reach of children.

Prempro comes in four strengths, each a different color (cream, gold, peach and light blue), and Angeliq in two (yellow and pink). If you switch strengths, the color is a quick check. See the Prempro, Activella and Angeliq dosing schedules, Prempro vs Activella, and missed a Prempro dose.

How do you travel with them?

These are room-temperature tablets, so they need no ice pack. Keep them in your carry-on in the blister card, within 59-86°F (15-30°C), and out of a hot car. For Activella, also keep the pack dry and out of strong light. Other estradiol forms are on the estradiol gel and estradiol patch pages.
