Short answer: Store EstroGel and Divigel at room temperature, 68-77°F (20-25°C), with excursions allowed to 59-86°F (15-30°C). Throw away an EstroGel canister after priming and 30 doses, even if it is not empty. Throw away each empty Divigel packet in the trash. EstroGel contains alcohol and is flammable until dry. Sources: both labels, section 16 and patient leaflets.
| Product | Temperature | Packaging |
|---|---|---|
| EstroGel 0.06% | 20-25°C (68-77°F); excursions 15-30°C (59-86°F) | 50-gram metered-dose pump; 1.25 g of gel (0.75 mg estradiol) per pump depression |
| Divigel 0.1% | 20-25°C (68-77°F); excursions 15-30°C (59-86°F) | Single-dose foil packets of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 and 1.25 g; cartons of 30 |
Neither label says anything about the refrigerator or freezer.
EstroGel leaflet: the 50-gram canister holds enough for priming with up to 5 full pump depressions and 30 daily doses. “After you have first primed your canister and used 30 doses, you will need to throw away the canister. Do not use the canister for more than 30 doses even though the canister may not be completely empty. You may not get the correct dose.”
Gel pumped out while priming is discarded by rinsing it down the sink or placing it in the household trash (section 2). Divigel leaflet: throw away the empty packet in the trash.
EstroGel contains alcohol, which is flammable: avoid fire, flame or smoking until the gel has dried. See EstroGel side effects, Divigel side effects, the EstroGel and Divigel dosing schedules, EstroGel vs Divigel and the estradiol page.
Both are room-temperature products, so they need no ice pack. Keep them in your carry-on, within 59-86°F (15-30°C), and out of a hot car. Divigel packets are single-dose, which makes them easy to count out for a trip.
