Definition: A testosterone ester is testosterone with a fatty acid chain attached, such as cypionate or enanthate. The chain makes it dissolve better in oil and absorb slowly from the injection site. The body then cuts the chain off to release plain testosterone. Per the labels, this lets shots be spaced days or weeks apart.
Plain testosterone does not last long: the testosterone enanthate label cites a half-life of 10 to 100 minutes. The ester changes that. The Depo-Testosterone label says esters in oil are absorbed slowly from the injection site and gives testosterone cypionate a half-life of about 8 days in muscle. Both labels list intervals of every 2 to 4 weeks.
The ester sets how fast a shot releases, which shapes the peak and the dip before the next shot. That is why the schedule you log matters as much as the dose.
Cypionate, half-life about 8 days (simple model)
This uses the simple model where each half-life halves what is left. Real people vary with body size, injection site and kidney or liver function. It also skips the slow absorption at the start.
