Short answer: Keep new Yorvipath pens in the fridge at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C), in the package to protect from light. After first use, store the pen at room temperature below 86°F (30°C) and throw it away 14 days after first use, even if medicine is left. What do the Medication Guide and Instructions for Use add?

Medication Guide: “Before first use, store YORVIPATH in a refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze. Store away from heat. Store in the package with the pen cap on in order to protect from light.” “After first use, store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C). Keep the pen cap on the prefilled pen in order to protect from light. Throw away each pen 14 days after first use.”

  • Instructions for Use: “Do not leave your pen in a car or another place where it can get too hot or too cold.”
  • Take a new pen out of the fridge 20 minutes before first use so the medicine reaches room temperature.
  • Always throw away the pen after 14 days of use, even if it still has medicine inside, and use a new needle for each injection.
  • The medicine should be clear and colorless; do not use it if it is cloudy, colored or has particles.

How do you travel with it?

An in-use Yorvipath pen travels at room temperature below 86°F (30°C) for the rest of its 14 days, with the cap on and no needle attached. Unused pens should stay cold, so pack them in an insulated bag with a cold pack that does not touch the pen.

  • TSA allows medically necessary liquids over 3.4 oz in carry-on bags; declare them at the checkpoint for inspection.
  • Unused syringes and pen needles are allowed when they travel with the injectable medicine.
  • Ice packs and gel packs that keep medicine cool may go through frozen, partly frozen or melted.
  • Keep medicine in your carry-on, not checked luggage, where you cannot control the temperature. Do not let it touch an ice pack directly, since most labels say do not freeze.
