Short answer: Keep unopened Admelog in the fridge at 36-46°F (2-8°C) until the expiration date, or up to 86°F (30°C) for 28 days. Opened vials last 28 days in the fridge or at room temperature; an in-use SoloStar pen lasts 28 days at room temperature only. Do not use Admelog that froze. In a pump, it is changed at least every 7 days. Source: Admelog label, section 16.2.
What does the Admelog label say?
Section 16.2: “Do not freeze and do not use ADMELOG if it has been frozen. Protect from direct heat and light. In-use (opened) ADMELOG vials and ADMELOG SoloStar pens must be used within 28 days or be discarded, even if they still contain ADMELOG.”

What do the Instructions for Use add?
- Pen: “Take a new pen out of the refrigerator at least 1 hour before you inject. Cold insulin is more painful to inject.”
- Pen after first use: keep it at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C), away from heat or light, with the pen cap on. Do not put it back in the refrigerator, and do not store it with the needle attached. Use it for up to 28 days after first use.
- Vials: “If a vial has been frozen or overheated, throw it away.” Opened vials are kept in the fridge or at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C) for up to 28 days.
What about Admelog in a pump or diluted?
- Pump: change the Admelog in the reservoir at least every 7 days, or as the pump manual says if that is shorter, or after exposure to temperatures above 98.6°F (37°C).
- Diluted for injection: up to 24 hours in the fridge at 36-46°F (2-8°C), or up to 4 hours at room temperature (86°F [30°C]). Admelog used in a pump is not diluted.
- IV infusion bags: stable for 24 hours in the fridge, or up to 4 hours at room temperature.
Admelog is insulin lispro, like Humalog, but the two have separate labels. The Admelog label does not use Humalog’s total-time footnote. See the Admelog dosing schedule and Admelog side effects.
How do you travel with it?
An in-use Admelog pen travels at room temperature, up to 86°F (30°C), for the rest of its 28 days. Unopened spares can stay cold; out of the fridge they have 28 days. Keep them off direct contact with an ice pack, since frozen Admelog is not used.
- TSA allows medically necessary liquids over 3.4 oz in carry-on bags; declare them at the checkpoint for inspection.
- Unused syringes and pen needles are allowed when they travel with the injectable medicine.
- Ice packs and gel packs that keep medicine cool may go through frozen, partly frozen or melted.
- Keep medicine in your carry-on, not checked luggage, where you cannot control the temperature. Do not let it touch an ice pack directly, since most labels say do not freeze.
