Short answer: The Aveed label gives 3 mL (750 mg) injected deep into the buttock muscle at the start, another 750 mg 4 weeks later, then 750 mg every 10 weeks after that. No dose titration is needed. Each injection is given slowly over 60 to 90 seconds in a certified healthcare setting, followed by 30 minutes of observation for POME or anaphylaxis.
This is what the FDA label says. Follow your prescriber. Your prescriber may use a different dose or pace than the label's standard schedule.
What Aveed is approved for: Aveed is approved as testosterone replacement therapy in adult males with low or absent natural testosterone due to primary hypogonadism or hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and only where the benefits outweigh the serious risks of pulmonary oil microembolism and anaphylaxis. The label says safety and efficacy have not been established in men with "age-related hypogonadism" or in males under 18 (section 1).

Aveed is for intramuscular use only. It is injected deep into the gluteus medius muscle in the upper outer part of the buttock, alternating left and right buttocks between injections (sections 2.1, 2.3).
The healthcare provider aspirates for several seconds to make sure no blood appears before injecting, then pushes the plunger slowly, over 60 to 90 seconds. If blood is drawn, the syringe is discarded and a new dose prepared (section 2.3).
It comes as 750 mg/3 mL (250 mg/mL) in a single-use vial, and any unused portion is discarded (sections 2.2, 3).
The table below is the label's schedule, from the Dosage and Administration section. Numbers are copied exactly; the section is in brackets.
| Injection | Timing | Dose |
|---|---|---|
| First | At initiation | 3 mL (750 mg) intramuscularly |
| Second | 4 weeks after the first | 3 mL (750 mg) intramuscularly |
| Each after that | Every 10 weeks | 3 mL (750 mg) intramuscularly |
Before starting, hypogonadism is confirmed by morning serum testosterone measured on at least 2 separate days, with both results below the normal range.
Dosage titration is not necessary.
After each injection, the patient is observed in the healthcare setting for 30 minutes.
Hematocrit is checked before starting, re-checked 3 to 6 months after starting, and then yearly.
Prostate cancer is checked for before and during treatment; PSA, hemoglobin, hematocrit and lipids are monitored periodically (sections 5.3, 5.5, 5.14).
Blood pressure is checked periodically, especially in men with high blood pressure.
No studies were done in people with kidney or liver impairment (sections 8.6, 8.7).
The Aveed label gives no missed-dose instruction. Injections are given by a healthcare provider in a certified setting at the start, at 4 weeks and every 10 weeks; ask your prescriber what to do if an appointment is missed.
In Dose Track you set up Aveed as a protocol with the dose and schedule your prescriber gave you. A protocol can hold dose steps, each with its own dose and length in days or weeks, so a step-up plan like the one on the label can be entered once and the app moves to the next step on its own. Reminders follow the schedule, and every dose is logged with the date and time, so you can see which step you are on and when your last dose was. The app follows what you enter; it does not choose or change a dose.
