Short answer: 2 mL of bacteriostatic water in a 10 mg sermorelin vial makes 5 mg/mL. On a U-100 insulin syringe (1 mL = 100 units), every 10 units then holds 500 mcg. More water gives a weaker solution and a bigger draw for the same amount; the amount in the vial stays 10 mg.
| Water added | Concentration | Per 10 units | Per 1 unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mL | 10 mg/mL | 1 mg | 100 mcg |
| 2 mL | 5 mg/mL | 500 mcg | 50 mcg |
| 3 mL | 3.33 mg/mL | 333.333 mcg | 33.333 mcg |
| 5 mL | 2 mg/mL | 200 mcg | 20 mcg |
The amounts below are examples to show the conversion, not doses. How much to take is a decision for you and your prescriber.
| Water added | 100 mcg | 200 mcg | 400 mcg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mL | under 2 units | 2 units | 4 units |
| 2 mL | 2 units | 4 units | 8 units |
| 3 mL | 3 units | 6 units | 12 units |
| 5 mL | 5 units | 10 units | 20 units |
A 10 mg vial holds 100 draws of 100 mcg, 50 draws of 200 mcg, 25 draws of 400 mcg, no matter how much water you add.
Draws per vial depend only on the amount per draw, not on the water. The volume and units columns use 2 mL of water (5 mg/mL). Example amounts only, not doses.
| Amount per draw | Draws per vial | Volume per draw | Units per draw |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 mcg | 200 | 0.01 mL | under 2 units |
| 100 mcg | 100 | 0.02 mL | 2 units |
| 200 mcg | 50 | 0.04 mL | 4 units |
| 400 mcg | 25 | 0.08 mL | 8 units |
| 800 mcg | 12.5 | 0.16 mL | 16 units |
Real counts run a little lower: some liquid stays in the syringe and at the bottom of the vial.
To get the same 5 mg/mL from another vial size, scale the water with the vial. Same strength means the same units for the same amount, whichever vial it comes from.
| Vial | Water for 5 mg/mL | 200 mcg draws per vial |
|---|---|---|
| 2 mg | 0.4 mL | 10 |
| 5 mg | 1 mL | 25 |
| 6 mg | 1.2 mL | 30 |
| 9 mg | 1.8 mL | 45 |
| 10 mg (this page) | 2 mL | 50 |
