Short answer: Keep new Toujeo SoloStar and Max SoloStar pens in the fridge at 36-46°F (2-8°C) until the expiration date. After first use, keep the pen at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C), cap on, for up to 56 days; do not put it back in the fridge. Throw away a pen that froze. Section 16.2: “TOUJEO SoloStar or TOUJEO Max SoloStar prefilled pen should not be stored in the freezer and should not be allowed to freeze. Discard TOUJEO prefilled pen if it has been frozen. Protect TOUJEO SoloStar/TOUJEO Max SoloStar from direct heat and light.”
| Pen | Not in use (unopened), refrigerated 36-46°F (2-8°C) | In use (opened), room temperature only, up to 86°F (30°C) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mL SoloStar (450 units) | Until expiration date | 56 days |
| 3 mL Max SoloStar (900 units) | Until expiration date | 56 days |
The table says to always store the pens with the cap on during the in-use period, “to prevent degradation.” Unlike the Lantus label, the Toujeo table has no room-temperature column for unopened pens: how long an unused pen can be out of the fridge is not stated.

An in-use Toujeo pen travels at room temperature, up to 86°F (30°C), for the rest of its 56 days. Unused spares should stay cold: the label gives them no room-temperature allowance. Keep them off direct contact with an ice pack, since a frozen pen is thrown away.
