How to store Cycloset and cabergoline

Quoted from the US label · Unopened vs in use · Travel · Sources · Reviewed

Short answer: Both labels say 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C) and give no excursion range. Cycloset (bromocriptine) is stored and dispensed in a tight, light-resistant container. Cabergoline tablets are stored in the original container. Neither label gives a fridge instruction, and neither mentions moisture.

What do the two labels say?

Cycloset is a 0.8 mg bromocriptine tablet used for type 2 diabetes. Cabergoline is a 0.5 mg tablet for high prolactin levels. This page uses the Mylan cabergoline label; other makers carry their own.

The exact wording

Cycloset section 16: “Store and dispense: At 20-25°C (68-77°F) in a tight, light-resistant container. See USP Controlled Room Temperature.” Patient Information: “Store CYCLOSET at room temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C).” “Store CYCLOSET in a tight, light resistant container.”

Cabergoline section 16: “Store at controlled room temperature 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) [see USP]. Store the tablets in the original container.” Patient Information: “Store CABERGOLINE at room temperature between (20°C to 25°C) 68°F to 77°F in the original container.”

Cycloset is the only one of the two that names light. Cabergoline asks for the original container but does not say why.

Dosing and side effects

Dosing: Cycloset and cabergoline. Missed a dose: Cycloset and cabergoline. Side effects: Cycloset and cabergoline. Molecules: bromocriptine and cabergoline.

How do you travel with them?

No ice pack is needed. Keep Cycloset in its light-resistant bottle and cabergoline in its original bottle, in your carry-on and out of a hot car. Neither label gives an excursion range, so avoid long spells outside 68°F to 77°F.
