Missed a Humatrope Dose? What to Do Now | Dose Track
[Missed dose · Humatrope]

I missed my Humatrope (somatropin) injection. What now?

somatropin (growth hormone) · Daily injection; children: weekly dose split over 6 or 7 days · Label checked

Short answer: The Humatrope label has no missed-dose instructions. For children it divides the weekly dose into 6 or 7 daily injections; for adults it says to give the dose daily. Somatropin has a half-life of about 3.8 hours, so each dose acts on its own day. Do not double the next dose without asking your prescriber.

What does the Humatrope label say about missed doses?

From the FDA label on DailyMed. Numbers in brackets are label section numbers.

Does the Humatrope label say what to do if I miss a dose?

No. We checked the full Humatrope prescribing information, Patient Information and Instructions for Use on DailyMed. None contains a missed-dose instruction.

Section 2.2 says pediatric doses are a weekly total divided into equal doses given 6 or 7 days per week. Section 2.3 says adults get the prescribed dose daily, starting at about 0.2 mg/day (range 0.15 to 0.3 mg/day) or at 0.006 mg/kg daily.

Why does a missed day of Humatrope not carry over?

Section 12.3 gives a mean half-life of 3.8 hours after an injection under the skin, and attributes that half-life to slow absorption from the injection site. Each injection acts on its own day, so a second dose later does not replace the missed one. Your prescriber can say whether a missed day is simply skipped.

Does a missed day change how long my cartridge lasts?

No. Section 2.4 says a mixed Humatrope cartridge is stable for up to 28 days refrigerated at 36° to 46°F (2° to 8°C), and should not be left at room temperature for more than 30 minutes per day. Skipped days do not extend the 28 days, so the mixing date is the one to watch after a gap.

Do missed doses matter for a child's growth?

The label links the two. Section 2.2 tells prescribers to assess compliance, along with other causes of poor growth, if a child's height velocity does not increase, particularly during the first year of treatment. A dated log of each injection gives that conversation real numbers.
