Short answer: The Bijuva label says that if the evening dose is missed, take it with food as soon as you can, unless it is within two hours of the next evening dose. Bijuva is one capsule of estradiol and progesterone taken by mouth each evening with food. The label does not say to double up.
| Situation | What the label says |
|---|---|
| Schedule | One capsule by mouth each evening with food (2.1) |
| Missed the evening dose | Take it with food as soon as you can (17, Patient Information) |
| Within 2 hours of the next evening dose | Do not take the missed one (17, Patient Information) |
| Half-life | Estradiol about 26 to 28 hours, progesterone about 9 to 10 hours (12.3) |
Section 17, under "Missed Evening Dose of BIJUVA", says that if a woman misses her evening dose, she should take the dose with food as soon as she can, unless it is within two hours of the next evening dose.
The Patient Information words it the same way: if you miss a dose of Bijuva, take the missed dose as soon as possible with food, unless it is within two hours of the next evening dose.
Example: you usually take Bijuva with dinner at 7 pm and remember the next morning. Under the label you would take it with breakfast. If you only remember at 6 pm the next evening, that is within two hours of the next dose, so you would take only the 7 pm capsule.
Section 2.1 says to take one capsule each evening with food. The missed-dose rule keeps that: a late capsule is also taken with food.
Section 12.3 gives a half-life for estradiol of about 26 to 28 hours and for progesterone of about 9 to 10 hours after repeat dosing.
