How to store Aromasin and tamoxifen

Quoted from the US label · Unopened vs in use · Travel · Sources · Reviewed

Short answer: Both are room-temperature tablets; neither label gives a fridge instruction. Aromasin section 16 says 77°F (25°C) with excursions to 59-86°F (15-30°C), while its Patient Information says 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Tamoxifen (Mylan label) is stored at 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C), protected from light, and away from excessive heat over 104°F (40°C).

What do the two labels say?

Aromasin (exemestane 25 mg) is an aromatase inhibitor; tamoxifen works differently but treats the same kinds of breast cancer. This page uses the Mylan tamoxifen label; other makers carry their own.

Why does the Aromasin label give two ranges?

Section 16: “Store at 25°C (77ºF); excursions permitted to 15°–30°C (59°–86°F) [see USP Controlled Room Temperature].” Patient Information: “Store AROMASIN at room temperature 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C).” The label does not explain the difference. Keeping it between 68°F and 77°F satisfies both.

How should tamoxifen be stored?

How Supplied: “Store at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F). [See USP Controlled Room Temperature.]” “Avoid excessive heat (over 104°F/40°C).” “Protect from light.” “Dispense in a tight, light-resistant container as defined in the USP using a child-resistant closure.” The bottle label repeats this and adds “Keep container tightly closed.” The Medication Guide says nothing about storage.

What about Arimidex and Femara?

They have their own pages: Arimidex (68-77°F, nothing else stated) and Femara (68-77°F, excursions 59-86°F).

Dosing: Aromasin and tamoxifen. Missed a dose: Aromasin and tamoxifen. Side effects: Aromasin and tamoxifen. Molecules: exemestane and tamoxifen. Comparisons: Aromasin vs tamoxifen and Femara vs Aromasin.

How do you travel with them?

No ice pack is needed. Keep both in their bottles in your carry-on and out of a hot car; tamoxifen stays in its light-resistant bottle, and its label names 104°F (40°C) as excessive heat.
