Short answer: The Provigil label has no missed-dose instructions in the prescribing information or Medication Guide. It describes one 200 mg dose a day in the morning, or about 1 hour before a work shift. The Medication Guide says that taking it too close to bedtime may make it harder to go to sleep. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist what to do.
| Situation | What the label says |
|---|---|
| Schedule | 200 mg once a day in the morning; for shift work, about 1 hour before the shift (2.1, 2.2) |
| Missed-dose rule | None in the label |
| Near bedtime | May make it harder to go to sleep (Medication Guide) |
| Half-life | About 15 hours after multiple doses (12.3) |
No. We checked the Provigil prescribing information and Medication Guide from Teva on DailyMed. Neither says what to do after a missed dose.
The Medication Guide does say: "Do not change the time of day you take PROVIGIL unless you have talked to your doctor. If you take PROVIGIL too close to your bedtime, you may find it harder to go to sleep."
Section 12.3 gives an effective elimination half-life of about 15 hours after multiple doses. That is why a dose taken late in the day can still be active at night.
