Short answer: The Nuvigil label has no missed-dose instructions in the prescribing information or Medication Guide. It describes one dose a day, 150 to 250 mg in the morning, or 150 mg about 1 hour before a work shift. The Medication Guide says a dose too close to bedtime may make it harder to fall asleep. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist what to do.
| Situation | What the label says |
|---|---|
| Schedule | 150 to 250 mg once a day in the morning; for shift work, 150 mg about 1 hour before the shift (2.1, 2.2) |
| Missed-dose rule | None in the label |
| Near bedtime | May make it harder to fall asleep (Medication Guide) |
| Half-life | About 15 hours (12.3) |
No. We checked the Nuvigil prescribing information and Medication Guide from Teva on DailyMed. Neither says what to do after a missed dose. The Medication Guide says not to change the time of day you take Nuvigil without talking to your doctor, and that taking it too close to bedtime may make it harder to fall asleep.
Section 12.3 gives an apparent terminal half-life of about 15 hours. A dose taken late in the day can still be active at night.
