Short answer: The Humalog label has no missed-dose rule. It says to inject within 15 minutes before a meal or immediately after a meal. Section 17 tells prescribers to teach patients how to handle a skipped insulin dose, so the plan for a missed Humalog dose comes from your diabetes team, not from a general rule.
| Situation | What the label says |

| Missed-dose rule | None in the label |
| Who sets the plan | Prescriber instructs on a skipped insulin dose (17) |
| Peak level | 30 to 90 minutes after an injection under the skin (12.3) |
| Used with | Generally an intermediate- or long-acting insulin (2.2) |
No. We checked the Humalog prescribing information, Patient Information and Instructions for Use from Eli Lilly on DailyMed. None gives a missed-dose instruction.
Section 2.2 says to give the dose within fifteen minutes before a meal or immediately after a meal. The Patient Information puts it as: give your injection within 15 minutes before or right after you eat a meal.
Your prescriber. Section 17 tells prescribers to instruct patients on handling special situations, and lists an inadequate or skipped insulin dose, an accidental extra dose, inadequate food intake and skipped meals among them. The label leaves the details of that plan to the care team.
Humalog is absorbed faster than regular human insulin. In healthy volunteers, peak serum levels came 30 to 90 minutes after an injection under the skin (section 12.3). The dose is meant to cover the meal it goes with.
The label does not describe doing that. Section 5.3 says low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is the most common adverse reaction with insulins, including Humalog, and that severe hypoglycemia can be life-threatening. Ask your diabetes team before changing a dose.
