Stanozolol: approval status and risks

Former US tablet strength · Approval status · Half-life notes

What is stanozolol?

Stanozolol is a 17-alpha-methylated anabolic steroid with a pyrazole ring fused to its first ring. It was sold in the US as Winstrol 2 mg tablets, which are discontinued; FDA's animal drug rules still list it for dogs, cats and horses.

Also known as: Winstrol, Winstrol Depot, Winsteroid.

Former US tablet strength

Winstrol came as 2 mg tablets. Drugs@FDA lists Winstrol (NDA 012885) as discontinued, and FDA withdrew approval of Winsteroid 2 mg tablets (NDA 013268) in 2024. FDA's animal drug rules list 2 mg tablets for dogs and cats and a 50 mg/mL injectable suspension for dogs, cats and horses.

Approval status and how it is used

There is no stanozolol product approved for people in the US today. Winstrol tablets are listed as discontinued, and FDA withdrew the Winsteroid tablet approval in September 2024 because the holder repeatedly failed to file required annual reports. The veterinary tablets and injection are restricted to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Anabolic steroids are Schedule III controlled substances in the US, and this one is named in the federal list (21 CFR 1308.13(f)). Having it without a valid prescription is illegal. It is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List as an anabolic agent, banned in and out of competition.

Stanozolol was used under medical supervision to prevent attacks of hereditary angioedema. In 21 people treated for 20 to 40 years (Sloane 2007), side effects included unwanted hair growth, weight gain, menstrual changes, acne and mood changes; 5 had low HDL cholesterol and 2 had high triglycerides, while liver enzymes showed no lasting changes.

Dose Track has oral and injectable stanozolol as separate built-in compounds, so you can log either.

Stanozolol half-life and time to peak

  • Half-lifeNot listed
  • Time to peak (Tmax)Not listed
  • Route in Dose TrackBy mouth (oral)

We could not open a Winstrol label (it is not on DailyMed or Drugs@FDA), and we found no published human study giving stanozolol's half-life or time to peak. So we do not list the app's modeling values (9 hours and 1 hour for tablets, 24 hours and 12 hours for the injection).

How to track stanozolol in Dose Track

  1. Add stanozolol from the built-in list. It sits next to everything else you take, so a GLP-1, TRT and a few peptides all live in one log.
  2. Log each tablet when you take it, including split or fractional tablets, so your history shows exactly what you took and when.
  3. Set reminders on your own schedule, whether that is daily, weekly or every few days.
  4. Your log is stored on your phone and no account is needed. Data only leaves it for features you choose, like AI answers and lab reading.
