SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3): what it is, studies and status

Concentrations studied · Approval status · Half-life notes

What is SNAP-8?

SNAP-8 is a trade name for acetyl octapeptide-3, a lab-made eight-amino-acid peptide used in anti-wrinkle skin care. We found no published human study of it on its own: the only trials we found tested it inside microneedle patches mixed with other active ingredients, so its own effect is unknown.

Also known as: acetyl octapeptide-3, SNAP 8.

Concentrations studied

There is no standard strength, and the two studies below do not give the amount of acetyl octapeptide-3 in their patches in the abstract.

Approval status and how it is used

Skin-care peptides are sold as cosmetic ingredients. FDA does not approve cosmetics before they go on the market. FDA says a product that only moisturizes so lines look less noticeable is a cosmetic, but a product intended to remove wrinkles or increase the skin's production of collagen is a drug or a medical device, even if it is sold as a cosmetic.

Both human studies we found used dissolving microneedle patches, tiny needles made of hyaluronic acid that dissolve into the skin, and both were written mainly by company researchers. In a 12-week study (Avcil 2020), patches containing acetyl octapeptide-3 plus four other active ingredients were applied to the corner of the eyes and the forearm; fine lines fell by 25.8% and no skin reactions were reported, but the abstract describes no placebo group. In a 24-person study (Shin 2024), a patch with acetyl octapeptide-3, a vitamin C compound and another active was compared with a plain hyaluronic acid patch on the other eye for 28 days; wrinkles improved more on the active side, with no side effects reported.

Because each patch had several actives and the needles themselves affect the skin, neither study shows what acetyl octapeptide-3 does by itself. A 2026 review of cosmetic peptides (Yi) notes that microneedles and other delivery systems make it hard to credit results to the peptide.

SNAP-8 half-life and time to peak

  • Half-lifeNot listed
  • Time to peak (Tmax)Not listed

We could not find a published half-life or time to peak for acetyl octapeptide-3. It is applied to the skin, and the studies we found measured the skin, not levels in the blood, so we do not list one.

How to track SNAP-8 in Dose Track

  1. Add SNAP-8 as a custom compound. Start typing its name and Dose Track fills in the details from its research library for you to check, and it sits next to everything else you take.
  2. Log each application when you put it on, so your history shows exactly what you used and when.
  3. Set reminders on your own schedule, whether that is daily, weekly or every few days.
  4. Your log is stored on your phone and no account is needed. Data only leaves it for features you choose, like AI answers and lab reading.

Frequently asked questions

What is the half-life of SNAP-8?+
We could not find a published half-life or time to peak for acetyl octapeptide-3. It is applied to the skin, and the studies we found measured the skin, not levels in the blood, so we do not list one.
Does SNAP-8 work better than argireline?+
We found no published study comparing them. The only human studies of acetyl octapeptide-3 we found tested it mixed with other ingredients in microneedle patches, so its own effect is not known.
Can I track SNAP-8 in Dose Track?+
Yes. SNAP-8 is in Dose Track's research library, so when you add it as a custom compound its details are filled in for you to check. You can then log each application next to your other compounds, set reminders on your own schedule, and see your history next to your lab results. Your log is stored on your phone and no account is needed. Data only leaves it for features you choose, like AI answers and lab reading.
